“New Zealand origin” animal products – what does it mean?
The international biotechnology industry has recognised for some time that New Zealand is the world’s premier source of animal sera and animal protein products. New Zealand’s strict agricultural regulations, high standards of husbandry and animal care, protected environment and stringent biosecurity measures have resulted in the complete absence of many significant animal diseases that affect livestock in other countries. New Zealand is classified as being free from all List A animal diseases by the Office International des Epizooites (OIE). New Zealand is recognised as being free of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), foot-and-mouth disease, scrapie and numerous other significant animal diseases by the USDA-APHIS.

New Zealand’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) is the regulatory authority responsible for monitoring and protecting New Zealand’s animal pest and disease status (
MAF Biosecurity Authority Statement on New Zealand’s freedom from specified animal diseases). AROTEC DIAGNOSTICS LIMITED is a MAF-registered exporter of New Zealand animal products (official identification code ARODIA01) and a MAF-approved and –audited Scientific Material Operator (official identification code ARODIA2).

“New Zealand origin” material offers the following advantages to the end-user:
1. New Zealand animals comprise a genetically well-defined and homogenous herd. Organs from such animals therefore constitute extremely homogenous raw materials for the purification of quality reagents. This is especially evident in the excellent lot-to-lot consistency of our animal source antigens.
2. Complete traceability - from finished product right back to original animal herd.3. New Zealand’s animal disease status is internationally recognised therefore critical market-access requirements are fulfilled which greatly facilitates importation.
